THE SENUFO: HISTORY AND ART

The Senufo is a town of Sudanese culture and language that live in the Republic of the Ivory Coast, Mali and Burkina Fasso.
With respect to which it refers the economy, the Senufo is subsistence agriculturists. To a lesser extent animals raise. The fishing and the hunting do not contribute much to the local economy.
This ethnic group is divided in two classes: the one of the farmers and the one of the craftsmen. We could emphasize formerly that, totally was prohibited the marriage between members of different classes, thing that no longer happens at the present time.
An important aspect, that there would be to emphasize of the Senufo society, is its concept of community, since over the individual it is the society, therefore the good thing for the community is always more important that the good thing for the individual.
In which one talks about his religion, the Senufo venerates to certain ancestors and spirits of the nature.
Between its extensive artistic production they emphasize the carved wood masks, for cultural ceremonies, in which zoomorfos elements are superposed, horns of bóvidos, jaws of horse, teeth of feline, etc. |
